BYD has unveiled the Atto 8, a three-row electric SUV that charges faster than any rival when paired with the right charger.
The model made its European debut at the Paris Motor Show, where its understated design hides a potent electric powertrain.
At the heart of the Atto 8 is BYD's second-generation Blade battery with a 115 kWh capacity.
Thanks to BYD's Flash Charging technology, the battery can go from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes.
A 10% to 70% fill takes only five minutes, and even in -30 C weather, a 20% to 97% charge is completed in 12 minutes.
For comparison, the new Skoda Peaq takes 28 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.
However, Flash chargers are still scarce, though BYD plans to have 3,000 stations live across Europe by the end of 2027.
Two Powertrain Options
Both versions of the 198-inch SUV share the same battery and charging capabilities but differ in power.
The entry-level Design features a 456 hp electric motor and rear-wheel drive, accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in 8 seconds.
The Atto 8 Excellence adds a second motor for a combined 764 hp, cutting the sprint to 4.6 seconds.
Range varies: the RWD model offers 405 miles on a fill, while the dual-motor version delivers 374 miles.
Standard equipment includes a panoramic glass roof, a 26-inch head-up display, and heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats.
Middle-row outer seats also get heating, ventilation, and massage, plus dual 50W smartphone chargers.
Excellence models add a refrigerator.
Pricing will be announced later this year, ahead of the spring 2027 on-sale date.
