FIFA has invited Dutch music personality Orgel Joke to perform for the crowd ahead of a World Cup match if the Netherlands national football team advances to the next round, according to a report by rijnmond.
nl on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The 76-year-old musician from Vlaardingen expressed excitement about the invitation but faces a potential obstacle following a recent fall that left her unable to straighten her arm.
Joke recounted the moment her son delivered the unexpected news on Wednesday evening, June 10, 2026, during an interview with national broadcaster NOS.
Following the initial message, Joke and her son held a virtual meeting with tournament organizers to confirm the authenticity of the performance request.
The musician initially hesitated due to her personal rule against taking flights that exceed six hours, but her son convinced her to reconsider the unique opportunity.
Her son urged her not to decline the invitation, highlighting the significance of the event.
Moet je gewoon doen,'" said Joke.
Joke decided to reflect on the offer overnight before making her final decision to accept under certain conditions, noting that she will turn 77 on Saturday.
The musician has already planned a setlist featuring sing-along tracks, World Cup anthems, and Dutch songs to engage the tournament audience.
When asked about performing her collaborative World Cup song with Martijn Fischer, Joke indicated that it would require his presence.
However, her participation remains in doubt after a recent accident on her balcony, where she fell onto a flowerpot due to slippery conditions.
Medical examinations revealed a minor fracture near her elbow, requiring the application of a pressure bandage.
Medical professionals are scheduled to remove the bandage next week to evaluate her mobility and determine if she can play the organ.
Joke is maintaining a positive outlook while waiting for updates on both her physical recovery and the competitive progress of the Dutch team.
"Laten we hopen dat ze het redden. Het zou natuurlijk superleuk zijn," said Joke.
Aside from her physical recovery, Joke must also resolve administrative issues before traveling, as she currently holds only an identity card and lacks the passport required to enter the United States.
