Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. were ejected following a fight during the opening kickoff of their Week 5 game in London.
The incident occurred as Jacksonville returned the kickoff, and the Jaguars initially appeared to score before a penalty erased the play.
Trotter and Thomas fought at midfield, and players and officials separated them.
Video reviewed by the source showed Trotter throwing Thomas down before Thomas responded by kicking his legs toward Trotter.
Both players were removed from the game after the confrontation.
Impact on Both Teams
According to the source, the ejection was a major loss for Philadelphia because Trotter was a starter.
The linebacker had recorded 19 tackles and one pass defensed before Week 5.
His departure left Philadelphia without a starting linebacker for the remainder of the game.
Thomas, a rookie defensive end for Jacksonville, entered the matchup as a backup and special teams contributor.
According to the source, he had recorded half of a sack in three games this season.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Network connected the incident to Trotter's family history involving his father, former NFL linebacker Jeremiah Trotter.
"Jeremiah Trotter once got thrown out for fighting in pregame. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. just got tossed after the opening kickoff," said Mike Garafolo, NFL Network.
The Eagles selected Trotter in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, according to the source.
