Pamela Anderson discovered groundcherries growing wild in her seven-acre garden on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
She initially mistook the fruits for tomatillos, but their citrusy and earthy flavor caught her attention and became the basis for a new lip-care idea.
"I've been obsessed with them ever since," Anderson said, according to People.
From Garden Discovery to Beauty Inspiration
Anderson's property in Ladysmith, British Columbia, reflects a relaxed garden style, according to Homes & Gardens.
Wildflowers, herbs and vegetables grow mixed together rather than in strict rows.
Groundcherries belong to the Physalis genus and are related to tomatoes and tomatillos, according to the University of Minnesota Extension.
The fruits grow inside papery husks and are often ready to harvest when the husks dry and the fruit begins falling from the plant.
Anderson previously described gardening as part of reconnecting with herself after returning to her family property, according to a 2025 interview with Architectural Digest.
Her garden approach allows plants to grow with less control, while the groundcherry discovery has now shaped a new lip-care idea.
