British actress Georgina Cates, who played Jenny Porter in the BBC sitcom 2point4 Children, died in May at the age of 51.
The news surfaced publicly on October 17, 2026, when the show's creator, Andrew Marshall, shared it in a post on X.
No cause of death has been disclosed.
Marshall said he had learned of her passing and had no details beyond what appeared on IMDb.
In his post, he described her as "lovely and talented" and sent sympathies to her family and children.
From Claire Woodgate to a Breakthrough on Screen
Cates was born Claire Elaine Woodgate and started her television career at 16 before moving into independent and mainstream films.
Her breakthrough came with the 1995 film An Awfully Big Adventure, a role she secured after an initial rejection under her birth name.
According to reports cited by the Daily Star and AOL, she created the fictional identity Georgina Cates, presenting herself as a young red-haired Liverpudlian actress with no prior experience.
She went on to appear in Frankie Starlight in 1995 and Illuminata in 1998.
Her performance in Clay Pigeons, alongside Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix, also drew critical recognition.
After a seven-year break from the film industry, Cates returned in 2007 with the independent production Sinner.
That performance earned her a Best Actress award at the Brooklyn Arts Council International Film & Video Festival.
Her final on-screen appearance was in the 2016 short film Save Me From The Sound Of The Siren, in which she played Madeleine.
Cates was previously married to actor Skeet Ulrich.
Following the announcement, tributes came from viewers and people connected to 2point4 Children, with fans recalling her work in the sitcom's first two series.
The official 2point4 podcast remembered her as "our first Jenny Porter" and noted she was only 51.
The podcast said she brought "both a dry wit and a dark edge" to the role, which it said fit the tone of the early series.
