Law enforcement agencies across the Bexar County area hosted their annual Neighbors Together events on October 6, 2026, aiming to strengthen ties between communities and first responders.

The initiative, also known as National Night Out, is held every year on the first Tuesday of October.

Its main goal is to build trust and improve working relationships between residents and public safety officers.

This year's gatherings marked the first Neighbors Together event for San Antonio Police Chief Jesse Salame since he took leadership of the department.

In an interview with KSAT after his appointment, Salame stressed that active outreach remains a core part of his leadership approach.

"I need to be sure that I'm out there just engaging with the officers, engaging with the community," Salame said.

"And letting them know that we're there for them. And when we need to be accountable for something, we're absolutely gonna be accountable for that."

Community Gatherings Across the Region

Neighborhoods and municipalities throughout the San Antonio region organized specific gatherings throughout the evening.

Alamo Heights hosted a gathering at City Hall, while Terrell Hills police focused their session at Crestwood Park on teen driver safety and responsible driving habits.

In Cibolo, Police Chief Thedrick Andres met residents at El Sereno Senior Living before officers visited various neighborhood groups.

Educational entities also participated, with Harlandale ISD hosting family activities at Harlandale Memorial Stadium and UTSA welcoming students at the Student Union Paseo.
