New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone is weighing lineup changes after his team fell behind 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
The Yankees have managed only two runs in the series, both on solo home runs by Ben Rice in Game 2.
Boone confirmed he is considering adjustments after using the same lineup in the first two games.
"Yeah. I'm considering a couple things," Boone said.
He added that he had not settled on anything and planned to consult his coaches before deciding.
"But I haven't settled on anything.
I'll kind of work through that through the day and talk to some of my coaches and make a decision, hopefully tonight on which way I want to go," Boone said.
According to the New York Daily News, the Yankees are 5-for-51 in the ALDS, with Ryan McMahon and Jazz Chisholm Jr. a combined 0-for-9.
Anthony Volpe could enter the middle-infield mix after starting Game 1 of the Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox.
José Caballero and Amed Rosario were also identified as options, while Giancarlo Stanton could contribute as a designated hitter despite previously being limited to pinch-hitting duties.
Boone acknowledged that Tampa Bay's pitching dictated much of the Yankees' struggles in the opening games.
"Obviously Rasmussen really shut us down the first night," Boone said.
"Like hit a couple of balls on the screws, but for the most part he had his way with us and kind of dominated the game."
"[Monday] I thought offensively better at-bats, like we had some opportunities, especially in the middle of the game.
I thought Belly had a great at-bat with the bases loaded there. We were able to knock Peralta out."
"Didn't find the hole and then just not enough. But the story is we gotta play cleaner baseball than that," Boone said.
The Yankees committed four errors in Game 2, including three in the first inning, according to Sports Illustrated and Sports Yahoo.
The team also struck out 17 times while producing only three other times on base.
Sports Illustrated criticized Boone's use of his bench after Tampa Bay moved ahead 5-1.
Several available right-handed hitters were not used against left-handed reliever Ian Seymour during key at-bats.
Boone explained his decision by saying Seymour's splits did not make him view the pitcher as a strong platoon target.
"Seymour, I view as very neutral," Boone said.
"So there would've been a right-hander I would have used at some point had we gotten runners on base, but by the time he was in the game it was 5-1.
So I was playing more of a get-on-base, see if we could create traffic and then possibly shoot [Giancarlo Stanton] or Goldie or [Heliot] Ramos in a spot there."
Ben Rice provided the Yankees' main offensive production in Game 2 with two home runs.
According to Sports Yahoo, his five postseason home runs through 10 games rank second in Yankees history for a player's first 10 postseason games, behind Bernie Williams' six.
Max Fried is scheduled to start Game 3 for New York against a Tampa Bay team that won 98 regular-season games.
The Yankees need three consecutive victories to extend the series.
