The National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA has issued a beach hazards statement for the North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula coast, effective from Saturday through Monday.

The advisory warns of strong rip currents, sneaker waves, and breaking waves that could reach up to 16 feet.

According to the NWS, these conditions are dangerous for anyone visiting the shoreline.

Key Hazards and Safety Guidance

The weather service specifically highlighted sneaker waves, which can surge unexpectedly onto the shore, as an additional hazard alongside strong rip currents and large surf.

In its safety guidance, the NWS emphasized the need to keep away from exposed coastal structures and rocks.

"Dangerous conditions are forecast along the shoreline. Hazards include sneaker waves, strong rip currents, and large breaking waves," according to the NWS.

The agency also warned that waves can create dangerous situations even for people who remain onshore, particularly near structures and areas exposed to incoming surf.

"Stay off of jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and NEVER turn your back on the ocean."

The advisory covers the North Bay and San Francisco Peninsula coast through Monday.

The forecast calls for continued awareness of hazardous shoreline conditions throughout the stated period.
