The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical disturbance known as Invest 92L in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico.

As of October 5, 2026, the system has an 80 percent chance of tropical development over the next seven days.

Forecasters also report a 60 percent probability that it will form into a tropical depression or storm within two days.

The disturbance is drifting over the Bay of Campeche before it is expected to move northward toward the northern Gulf Coast.

Potential Impacts and Marine Warnings

Although forecast models currently disagree on the exact track and intensity, the system could bring heavy rain, flash flooding, and damaging wind gusts to parts of Louisiana and Florida by late this week.

Marine conditions along the Gulf Coast are projected to deteriorate starting Tuesday.

Small Craft Advisories have been issued, and offshore seas are expected to reach 5 to 7 feet by Wednesday.

The system is developing as Atlantic ocean temperatures reach record highs for October.

This comes despite an unusually quiet September that saw no hurricanes form in the basin for the first time in 32 years.
