Jane Seymour has confirmed that the romance between her and Joe Lando was not limited to the screen during their years on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.
Speaking at a reunion panel at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, on October 17, 2026, the 75-year-old actress recalled how a flash flood and an unplanned meal helped the co-stars realize their feelings were real.
Seymour and Lando played Dr. Michaela Quinn and Byron Sully in the CBS drama, which ran for six seasons from 1993 to 1998.
A Flash Flood and a $5 Meal
Seymour said she was drawn to Lando, now 64, the moment they met, describing him as the most gorgeous man she could remember seeing.
She made clear the connection was genuine rather than a byproduct of their characters' on-screen relationship.
"We really fell in love. That's a secret.
It's not a secret, is it anymore?" she said during the panel.
Just days into filming, a sudden flash flood hit the production set.
According to Seymour, Lando told her to get into his pickup truck, and the two drove out of the dangerous conditions together before heading for Mexican food and margaritas.
She recalled the escape as "the craziest thing ever" and said the meal cost them about $5.
It was during that outing, she said, that they recognized what had happened between them.
Seymour tied that experience to the authenticity audiences saw in the show's earliest episodes, saying everything viewers witnessed on Dr. Quinn, certainly in the pilot, was real.
The relationship itself did not last long, ending because the two wanted different futures.
Seymour explained that Lando pictured a family life with four children and a younger wife, while she was older and believed she would not have more children.
Life later took an unexpected turn, as she went on to have twins, a development she recalled with humor at the reunion: "But I showed him — I had twins."
The former couple have stayed close friends.
In a June 2026 interview with People, Lando compared their bond to that of a long-married couple, and Seymour agreed they know each other well enough to finish each other's sentences.
Lando also moved in with Seymour after his home was destroyed in a fire.
Both have since built relationships elsewhere.
Lando has been married to Kristen since 1997, while Seymour announced in June 2026 that she was engaged to emergency physician John Zambetti.
The reunion comes alongside another collaboration: Lando is set to guest-star in the fifth season of Harry Wild, the Acorn TV mystery series in which Seymour plays a retired literature professor solving murders in Dublin.
He will appear as an American pathologist.
For Seymour, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman also marked a turning point.
She has said she was struggling financially and facing the possible loss of her home when the role came along.
The series became a major success, and its cast later reunited for television films released in 1999 and 2001.
