The Chevrolet Corvette is set to go fully electric eventually, according to Corvette Executive Chief Engineer Tony Roma.
In a recent podcast appearance, Roma affirmed that electric vehicles remain General Motors' long-term goal, meaning an electric Corvette is inevitable.
However, the timeline remains unclear.
Back in 2022, GM President Mark Reuss said an electrified C8 Corvette would arrive in 2023, which turned out to be the E-Ray hybrid.
Reuss also mentioned a fully electric Corvette was coming but gave no date.
When asked about the status of the electric Corvette in October 2026, Roma acknowledged Reuss's statement and reiterated that electrification is GM's endgame.
"Someday there will be an electric Corvette," Roma said on The Drivecast, adding that the company currently offers electrification on the Corvette and will fully electrify it in the future.
Why the Delay?
The market may not be ready for an all-electric Corvette.
With models like the Z06, ZR1, ZR1X, and the new Grand Sport and Grand Sport X on sale, an electric Corvette could be a tough sell for the automaker.
Most likely, the C9 generation Corvette will be the first to offer an all-electric option.
In 2025, Chevy gave a glimpse of a Corvette C9 hypercar concept design, shaped at GM's European design center in the U.
K. , featuring radical elements like gullwing doors and underbody aero.
For now, the electric Corvette remains a future prospect, with no official timeline announced.
Enthusiasts can continue to enjoy the current lineup of V8-powered models while awaiting the inevitable electric shift.
