Chevrolet is bringing back the Colorado Desert Boss, reviving the off-road package for the 2027 model year after discontinuing it following a single year on sale.
The Desert Boss Special Edition will again be offered exclusively on the Colorado ZR2, according to GM Authority.
Unlike the original factory-prepped version, the 2027 package will be sold only as a dealer-installed option.
What the New Desert Boss Includes
The package adds a special off-road front bumper, a distinctive lighting setup, and Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers.
It also brings Tech Bronze-finished recovery hooks, door sill plates, and a decal package for the front fenders.
The Multimatic Jounce Control Dampers are nitrogen-charged hydraulic bump stops designed to work with Multimatic's DSSV dampers.
Those dampers are a $2,583 option on the Colorado ZR2 and come standard on the ZR2 Bison.
Pricing for the new Desert Boss package has not been announced, though the 2023 edition added $9,295 to a regular Colorado's sticker price.
The report adds that the package will not be offered in conjunction with the Bison or Midnight packages.
The original Desert Boss, introduced in 2023, included a bull bar, a roof-mounted light bar, a rear sports bar, and 17-inch wheels with 33-inch tires.
Upgraded Engine for 2027
The 2027 Colorado also gains GM's updated turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four, known as the L4B, replacing the L3B.
That engine is already available on the 2027 Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500.
It is rated at 350 horsepower and 450 pound-feet, up from the old engine's 310 hp and 430 lb-ft.
Pricing details for the 2027 Colorado have not been announced but are expected to be released soon.
