SpaceX has emerged as a major buyer of Tesla's Cybertruck, purchasing $131 million worth of the electric pickup last year, according to a regulatory filing.

The revelation comes as Cybertruck sales have declined sharply among private consumers.

The purchases were disclosed in SpaceX's prospectus as the company prepares to go public.

Since 2023, Tesla has booked roughly $890 million in revenue from SpaceX and xAI, the AI firm founded by Elon Musk.

How Many Cybertrucks Did SpaceX Buy?

At current MSRP ranging from $69,990 to $99,990, the $131 million figure translates to between 1,310 and 1,872 trucks, depending on trim mix.

A realistic estimate, weighted toward base and mid trims, lands closer to 1,700 to 1,800 units.

Registration data shows SpaceX registered 1,279 Cybertrucks in the fourth quarter of 2025 alone, representing more than 18% of all Cybertruck registrations in that period.

An additional 60 trucks were purchased by xAI, The Boring Company, and Neuralink.

Musk's companies also bought 158 Cybertrucks in January 2026 and 67 in February.

The vehicles were purchased at MSRP on terms similar to normal transactions, according to the filing.

Cybertruck Sales Slump

Overall Cybertruck demand has dropped significantly since deliveries began. In 2024, Tesla sold 38,965 units in the US, making it the best-selling electric pickup.

However, sales fell to 20,237 in 2025 and just 3,519 in the first quarter of 2026.

SpaceX and xAI have also purchased $506 million worth of Tesla Megapack energy-storage batteries in 2024, up from $191 million the previous year, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
