Generous EV subsidies in Germany have sparked a surge in demand, making the Leapmotor T03 an exceptionally affordable option.

The compact electric vehicle starts at €18,900 ($21,600) and can be leased for just €48.90 ($56) per month over a 36-month term, with an annual mileage cap of 10,000 km (6,213 miles).

Over three years, the total lease cost amounts to only €1,760 ($2,010).

At the end of the lease, buyers can purchase the T03 outright for €11,139 ($12,700) or return the vehicle.

Why Is It So Cheap?

The low price is partly due to German government incentives that provide up to €6,000 ($6,800) off the price of a new EV for families with at least two children and a combined income under €45,000 ($51,500).

With this subsidy, many shoppers can skip the down payment and delivery fees, focusing only on the monthly bill.

Leapmotor attributes the vehicle's competitive pricing to its high level of cost efficiency and extensive vertical integration.

The company told Nikkei Asia that the leasing rate is made possible by German government incentives.

Some observers speculated that Leapmotor was pricing the T03 low to clear inventory ahead of new EU regulations requiring advanced driver assistance systems and pedestrian protection.

However, a Leapmotor spokesman confirmed the T03 complies with these new rules.

Leapmotor's sales have surged globally.

In the first half of 2026, the company sold 356,487 vehicles, a 95 percent increase year-over-year.

June sales alone reached 93,376 units, also up 95 percent. Since its founding, Leapmotor has sold over 1.55 million cars.
