BBC Radio 6 Music has announced the launch of Indie Forever, a new 24-hour digital stream dedicated to independent alternative music.
The service will be available exclusively on BBC Sounds starting Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The stream will broadcast continuous indie pop and rock classics from the 1980s to the 2010s and beyond.
British artists will make up 70 percent of the playlist.
Weekday mornings will feature The Morning Session, hosted by broadcaster Steve Lamacq and Felix White, guitarist of The Maccabees.
The show is a tribute to Radio 1's former Evening Session.
Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, said the stream will tell the stories and play the songs that have soundtracked the UK's independent music scene over 40 years.
She described Indie Forever as a version of 6 Music that is pure, unadulterated indie.
The stream will include archive material, historic interviews, and classic performances. Highlights include Liam and Noel Gallagher's 1997 appearance on The Evening Session and Oasis's 1996 Knebworth concert.

Steve Lamacq expressed excitement about reliving memories each weekday morning with Felix White on The Morning Session.
He looks forward to telling the stories that shaped British independent music.
The schedule also includes City Soundtracks, a program broadcast Monday through Thursday hosted by Emily Pilbeam.
It is produced in partnership with BBC Introducing and the Music Venue Trust to highlight grassroots music venues.
Mark Davyd, CEO and founder of Music Venue Trust, praised 6 Music for understanding that today's headliners once played grassroots gigs.
He called Indie Forever a joyful tribute to four decades of music and said City Soundtracks brings it full circle.
The platform will also feature Indie Forever Disco, a two-hour program hosted by Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto on Fridays and Saturdays.

Rebroadcasts of historical series detailing the trajectories of The Smiths and Oasis will also be available.
