Flowers Are Bait (?? ???) is a Korean manhwa written by Dry Fish Girl and illustrated by Godago.
It originates from South Korea and falls into the genres of psychological drama, romance, mystery, and mature josei storytelling.
The series blends dark romance with suspense, presenting a narrative filled with tension, trauma, and morally complex characters.
Unlike typical romance manhwa, this title leans heavily into psychological conflict and dangerous relationships, making it more suitable for mature readers.
Synopsis
At Spruce Tree Hospital, So Yi-yeon hides a secret.
For two years, she has been secretly keeping a man in a vegetative state hidden from the world.
Her only wish is simple: for him to never wake up.
However, fate takes a cruel turn when the man suddenly regains consciousness.
With no memory and unstable behavior, he becomes a ticking time bomb.
In a moment of fear, Yi-yeon tells a lie that changes everything—she claims to be his wife.
The terrifying truth is that this same man once tried to kill her in the past.
Characters, Plot, and Themes
The story revolves around So Yi-yeon and Kwon Chae-woo, two deeply damaged individuals bound by a dangerous past.
Yi-yeon is not your typical heroine; she is driven by fear and survival, often making morally questionable decisions.
Chae-woo, on the other hand, is unpredictable and unsettling, especially after losing his memory.
The plot thrives on psychological tension rather than action.
Every interaction feels like a battle of control, trust, and hidden truths.
Themes of trauma, manipulation, identity, and survival dominate the narrative.
The romance here is not sweet—it is intense, toxic, and layered with suspense.
Strengths and Weaknesses
One of the biggest strengths of Flowers Are Bait is its gripping premise.
The “lie as survival” concept creates constant tension that keeps readers hooked.
The art style also enhances the mood, especially in emotional and unsettling scenes.
Another strong point is its character complexity, avoiding clichés often seen in romance manhwa.
However, the story may feel too dark or uncomfortable for some readers.
Its mature themes and morally grey characters can be difficult to digest.
Pacing can also feel uneven at times, especially during slower psychological build-ups.
Conclusion and Recommendation
Flowers Are Bait is a compelling read for fans of dark romance and psychological drama.
It is not a light or comforting story, but it excels in delivering tension and emotional intensity.
If you enjoy complex relationships and morally ambiguous narratives, this manhwa is highly recommended.
However, readers looking for wholesome romance should approach with caution.
