The first trailer for Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming comedy-drama, Digger, has been released, featuring Tom Cruise in an unconventional role.
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an oil baron on a quest to avert an ecological disaster. The film is set for a global release in early October.
Plot and Character
In the film, Cruise portrays a powerful figure whose actions may lead to nuclear war.
He embarks on a frantic mission to prove he can save humanity from the crisis he has caused.
At a recent press event in Los Angeles, Cruise expressed excitement about the project.
He said, "I have never had something that could challenge me in this way and neither had Alejandro when we went in, ever," as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
He emphasized the film's originality.
In the trailer, Cruise adopts a distinctive look with a grey combover and a pot belly, using a strong southern accent for his character.
The supporting cast includes John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, and Jesse Plemons.
Reflecting on his collaboration with Iñárritu, Cruise shared his admiration for the director's earlier work in Amores Perros.
He recalled, "When I saw that film, I don’t know how you all felt, but I was like, ‘What the fuck?
This guy!’"
