A collection of unheard 1965 recordings by David Bowie is set for official release on September 18.
The compilation, titled David Bowie: The Shel Talmy Recordings, brings together unreleased material from his early career when he performed as Davy Jones.
Before his breakthrough with Space Oddity in 1969, Bowie played a blues-influenced, slightly psychedelic pop-rock style.
The tracks were produced by Shel Talmy, known for his work with the Kinks and the Who.
Talmy frequently collaborated with session guitarist Jimmy Page, who played as a member of the Manish Boys backing Bowie on these sessions.
Renowned pianist Nicky Hopkins, who worked with the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, also contributed.
Track List and Preview
One track, I Want Your Love, has been released ahead of the full compilation.
Other songs include Cupid, Leave Her to Me, You Gotta Tell Her, Certain Woman, Today, I Live in Dreams, and I Do Believe I Love You.
Bowie originally used the name Davy Jones before changing it to David Bowie in 1966 to avoid confusion with the Monkees member.
Although he later became more experimental, Bowie did not dismiss his early work.
In 2000, he re-recorded several early songs for the album Toy, which was released posthumously in 2021.
