French mobility company Cosmobilis and private credit investor Park Square Capital have acquired WRC Promoter GmbH, the commercial rights holder for the World Rally Championship (WRC) and European Rally Championship (ERC).

The transaction was completed on July 31, 2026, during Secto Rally Finland.

Former Formula 1 team principal Eric Boullier has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of WRC Promoter.

Landmark Deal for Rallying

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) described the acquisition as the largest commercial deal in the history of both racing series.

The new ownership replaces previous shareholders Red Bull and German investment firm KW25, following a tender process initiated by the FIA in August 2025.

The tender attracted interest from across Europe, America, and the Middle East.

Alongside the transaction, the FIA confirmed the creation of a new Growth Fund aimed at driving grassroots participation and expanding championship development worldwide.

This comes ahead of major technical regulation updates scheduled for 2027.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem called it "the deal of the century for rallying" and highlighted unprecedented levels of investment.

He said the deal guarantees long-term strategic alignment as the championship prepares to finalize its 2027 calendar and updated sporting frameworks.

Ben Sulayem thanked FIA Deputy President for Sport Malcolm Wilson and his team for their negotiation work.

He expressed confidence in the incoming commercial management team and noted rallying's personal significance to him.

New Leadership and Vision

Eric Boullier, who previously led the Lotus and McLaren Formula 1 teams, takes charge to execute the expansion plan.

He emphasized plans to enhance fan experience across all events on the international calendar.

Boullier outlined the goal of establishing the WRC and ERC as world-class global brands, aligned with sustainability requirements.

Cosmobilis Chairman and CEO Jean-Louis Mosca framed the acquisition as a strategic extension of its automotive technology and mobility platform ecosystem.

He said the company is building an international platform where manufacturers, partners, media, technology, and fans come together.

Park Square Capital Representative Martino Ghezzi expressed strong backing for the management group led by Boullier and Cosmobilis.

FIA Deputy President for Sport Malcolm Wilson noted that the deal aligns with upcoming regulation shifts designed to broaden the championship's reach.

Active WRC competitors welcomed the announcement from the service park at Rally Finland.

Toyota Gazoo Racing driver Sébastien Ogier said the sport needs strong commitment and ambition.

World championship point leader Elfyn Evans noted that drivers had been anticipating a resolution to the commercial ownership negotiations.

Hyundai Motorsport driver Adrien Fourmaux expressed optimism regarding the incoming promoter's vision for the championship.
