Citroen introduced the 2 CV Concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show on October 11, 2026, reviving the values of its historic model in a compact electric package.
The concept is 3.76 metres long and sits between the Ami and C3 in the lineup, according to Stellantis.
A production version is planned within two years, with a target starting price of around 15,000 euros and European manufacturing.
Design and Philosophy
Citroen CEO Xavier Chardon said the project adapts the 2 CV philosophy rather than reproducing the historic vehicle.
He described the concept as a response to challenges facing affordable electric mobility.
"Reinventing the 2 CV isn't about replicating a car from the past; it's about reinventing what made it unique: its simplicity, its accessibility and the freedom it offered," Chardon said.
"With the 2 CV Concept, we're bringing that spirit into today's world to make electric mobility simpler, more human and more desirable.
The world has changed. But the idea remains the same: to make life more beautiful with Citroen."
Stellantis said the concept aims for a weight of about one tonne, allowing a smaller battery and range suited to everyday use.
The vehicle is expected to follow future European E-Car regulations.
The design team developed a modern interpretation of the original 2 CV, using familiar shapes while avoiding a direct replica.
The exterior includes updated lighting, a large double chevron emblem and practical design features.
"Why was the original born?
What was the brief, what was the context, and how does this idea make sense in the world of today?"
asked Gilles Vidal, Stellantis design director.
Vidal said the project was created to strengthen Citroen's identity as the company faces a market filled with increasingly advanced but expensive vehicles.
"We need to be super sharp about what our brands stand for. They are the company's biggest asset," Vidal said.
The concept interior follows a minimalist approach with an 8-inch touchscreen, a single-spoke steering wheel and removable storage elements.
Citroen also highlighted sustainable materials and practical details inspired by the original model.
"We could have copied those lights but we decided to do something that never existed before," Vidal said.
The vehicle includes design references such as egg-shaped storage areas, animal graphics on the pedals and a portable sound system called the Radioen.
Citroen said these details aim to combine simplicity with modern usability.
"We would like everything to be fabric inside, so it's super welcoming and special but also simple at the same time," Vidal said.
Citroen said the 2 CV Concept represents a future small electric car strategy focused on reducing complexity, improving repairability and making daily transportation more accessible.
