Eastern North Carolina is facing heavy rain, flooding risks, and possible tornadoes after Isaias weakened following landfall near Destin, Florida, around 9:30 p.
m. Friday.
WITN reported that the storm and an approaching cold front are creating hazardous weather conditions across the region.
The First Alert Weather Team designated the day as a First Alert Weather Day because of the threat from persistent rainfall, isolated flash flooding, and possible tornado spin-ups.
A Tornado Watch remained in effect for highlighted areas until 5 p. m.
, and residents were advised to take shelter immediately if a warning was issued.
Rainfall and Flood Watch Details
Storm-related rainfall is moving in from the south-southwest as the cold front connected to Isaias moves eastward.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop within incoming rain bands.
Most areas are expected to receive between 1.5 and 3 inches of rainfall, while the immediate coast could receive between 3 and 5 inches.
The heaviest rain is expected in locations with an active flood watch.
A flood watch is in effect for Carteret, Dare, Hyde, Jones, Onslow, Pamlico, and Southern Craven counties until 2 p.
m.
These areas are expected to experience the highest rainfall amounts within the forecast range.
Conditions are expected to improve later in the afternoon, with rainfall departing later in the evening.
The Tornado Watch remained in place through Sunday evening.
