Mumbai Police have ordered actor Imran Khan to leave India by October 28.
The notice was issued after Khan took part in a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to Rediff, Khan, who reportedly holds an American passport, was detained during the protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.
Authorities acted under Sections 29 and 7 of the Immigration Act, alleging that Khan participated in the demonstration despite being a foreign national.
The notice directs him to leave the country by the specified deadline.
Following his detention, Khan posted a photograph that appeared to show him inside a police van.
The image was accompanied by a brief caption addressing his situation.
"Apparently I'm going for a drive," Imran Khan wrote in the caption accompanying the photograph.
In comments to the media, Khan explained his participation by referring to his connection to Mumbai and questioned restrictions on movement and public expression.
Khan said he had joined the demonstration as a Mumbai resident and did not have any specific demands.
He also questioned restrictions on freedom of movement and what he described as the suppression of public voices.
The demonstration at August Kranti Maidan called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The reported immigration action followed Khan's participation in the protest, with October 28 set as the deadline for his departure from India.
