Federal prosecutors in Louisiana's Middle District filed a lawsuit on August 27, 2026, seeking to revoke the citizenship of 68-year-old Denham Springs business owner Nachhatar Singh.
The case was reported by The Advocate on Monday, according to court records.
Singh arrived in the United States from India in 1993 under the name Sawaran Singh.
He changed his name in 1996 following a deportation order issued after he missed immigration court hearings.

Singh has lived in the country since 1993 and operates a gas station in Livingston Parish that he has managed for the last 26 years, according to The Advocate.
Addressing his history and store operations, Singh described his personal approach to community interactions.
"So many times I catch somebody who has stolen something from my store, a drink or candy; I never complained.
I only told him, next time be careful, and if you're hungry, tell me, I can give you a drink," said Singh, owner of the Livingston business.
He further elaborated on the personal experiences that shape his outlook toward others.
"I try to help people because I know how it is to be a poor man living in this world," said Singh, owner of the Livingston business.
Singh is scheduled to make his next court appearance in December.
