Anthony Joshua will rely on patience and discipline when he meets Tyson Fury on December 11 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

The former two-time world heavyweight champion believes controlling his emotions will be essential to defeating his British rival in a fight set for worldwide broadcast on Netflix.

Joshua's approach draws on Deontay Wilder's three-fight rivalry with Fury, which ended with two victories for Fury and one draw.

According to Joshua, Wilder's attempts to finish Fury immediately after hurting him often drained his energy and allowed Fury to recover.

Speaking to The Ring's Mike Coppinger, Joshua explained why he believes Wilder's aggressive approach proved costly during their encounters.

"Wilder took those fights very personally, and that could be quite exhausting, especially when you hurt someone and try to finish them," Joshua said.

Joshua said the American's pursuit of a knockout sometimes left him vulnerable to Fury's ability to withstand pressure and recover.

He believes greater composure might have changed the outcome of some exchanges in their rivalry.

"You lose a lot of energy, and then Tyson comes back. Wilder could have gotten the job done if he was a bit more calm, cool and collected.

He could have learned from that.

Wilder tried to take him out of there, while Fury just managed to weather the storm and come back," Joshua said.

The former champion added that he does not expect frustration or the desire for an early knockout to dictate his tactics against Fury.

"I do not believe that would be me. I am going to keep a calm head," Joshua said.

The December 11 contest also carries a potential championship milestone for Joshua.

Fury's promoter, Frank Warren, has said the World Boxing Association super heavyweight belt will be contested in Cardiff, giving Joshua an opportunity to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.

According to the source report, Muhammad Ali, Michael Moorer, Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko have each won the heavyweight championship three times, while Evander Holyfield has captured it four times.

The WBA title became available after Oleksandr Usyk vacated the belt.

Murat Gassiev had been the association's number one contender and was expected to move up, but the highly anticipated Fury-Joshua matchup appears to have taken priority.

Both British fighters previously lost their world titles to Usyk.

Warren also outlined plans for the heavyweight division beyond the Cardiff fight.

He said his stable includes three of the four heavyweight champions and that the winners could pursue unification contests in 2027.

"We have got three of the four heavyweight champions on our roster, and we are going to make unification fights next year," Warren said.

Joshua enters the bout with 30 professional victories, four defeats and 27 knockouts.

Fury's record stands at 36 wins, two losses and one draw, including 25 knockouts.
