Queen Elizabeth's School, Barnet and The Henrietta Barnett School have tied for the highest position in the 2026 GCSE rankings compiled by WhichSchoolAdvisor.

Both schools recorded 97% of GCSE grades at 9–7, according to the publication.

Queen Elizabeth's School also retained the top spot in the A Level table, with 89.6% of grades awarded A or A*.

GCSE Top 10

Wilson's School followed closely in third place with 96.2% of grades at 9–7.

St Olave's Grammar School ranked fourth at 91.5%, while Tiffin School recorded 88%.

Pate's Grammar School came next at 87%, ahead of Wallington County Grammar School at 86%.

The remaining top 10 places went to The Latymer School at 85%, Nonsuch High School for Girls at 84%, and King Edward VI Five Ways School at 83%.

All ten schools in the GCSE ranking are selective institutions, WhichSchoolAdvisor said.

The publication noted that the tables measure academic attainment rather than student progress.

The 2026 results mark a shift from the previous year, when Wilson's School led the GCSE table.

Wilson's School has now moved to third place, while The Henrietta Barnett School and Queen Elizabeth's School share the top position.

A Level Results

In the A Level table, Wilson's School ranked second with 79.4%, followed by Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham at 79%.

St Olave's Grammar School placed fourth at 74%, while Tiffin School completed the top five at 71%.

Altrincham Grammar School for Girls ranked sixth with 70%.

Dame Alice Owen's School, which is partially selective, took seventh place with 68.3% of A Level grades at A*–A.

Yavneh College in Borehamwood ranked eighth with 65%, followed by Altrincham Grammar School for Boys at 63% and The Latymer School at 62%.

Yavneh College was the only comprehensive school in the A Level top 10, according to WhichSchoolAdvisor.

The publication also highlighted comprehensive schools with strong GCSE results outside the selective rankings.

Orleans Park recorded 59% of grades at 9–7, JFS achieved 55%, and Gordon's School in Woking recorded 53%.

WhichSchoolAdvisor noted that these figures had not yet been independently verified against results published by the individual schools.

The publication added that comprehensive schools educate students across a wider range of academic abilities than selective grammar schools.

It said direct comparisons of headline grades are therefore an incomplete measure of school performance.
