A fire at a Cadillac dealership in Fort Worth, Texas, destroyed six all-electric SUVs earlier this week.

The vehicles appear to be Cadillac Escalade IQ models, which start at more than $127,000.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said the blaze took almost 18 hours to bring under control.

No one was injured, but the fire also damaged two other vehicles at the Frank Kent Cadillac lot.

Why EV Fires Are Hard to Extinguish

Fire officials described the incident as exceptionally difficult to contain and extinguish.

They noted that EV fires can burn much hotter than typical fires, partly because battery packs are so well sealed.

Crews used large amounts of water and placed special blankets over the vehicles to limit the flames.

They also moved nearby cars away from the scene as the operation stretched on.

The fire started during the day and continued into the evening, lasting 17 hours and 33 minutes.

The cause of the fire has not been released by the Fort Worth Fire Department.

The dealership thanked local firefighters on Facebook for preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring businesses or surrounding grassland.

Frank Kent Cadillac praised the first responders' quick response and decisive action.

While such incidents can raise concerns about EV ownership, EV fires occur far less often than fires involving combustion-powered cars.
