Eugenio Chacarra moved to the top of the Race to Dubai standings after winning the DP World India Championship in New Delhi on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
The Spaniard closed with a final-round 70 to finish at 21 under par, two shots clear of the field, with three tournaments remaining in the season.
The result lifted him above Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy in the season-long points race.
Third title of the season
According to the DP World Tour results, the victory was Chacarra's third of the 2026 season and the fourth of his career on the tour.
The 26-year-old collected 4,092.89 points in the Race to Dubai standings, building on consecutive June wins at the KLM Open in Amsterdam and the Italian Open in Turin.
Chacarra began the final round with a five-shot cushion after a nine-under-par 63 in the third round.
He birdied two of his first three holes, dropped a shot at the sixth and made crucial par saves before adding another birdie at the 11th.
Australia's Daniel Hillier reached 19 under par and cut the margin to two shots with a birdie on the final hole.
Spain's Angel Hidalgo and Poland's Adrian Meronk finished at 15 under, but neither caught the leader.
Ambitions beyond India
After the win, Chacarra said he wants to establish himself among the world's leading professional golfers.
"I know what I'm capable of.
I was one of the best amateurs in the world and I want to be one of the best professional players in the world," he said.
He also spoke about the significance of potentially winning the season-long Race to Dubai title, which would place him alongside celebrated figures in Spanish golf.
"It would mean the world to [win the Race to Dubai]. Rahm and Seve are heroes for me.
Seve did everything for European and Spanish golf and Rahm is a guy I look up to.
Hopefully I can put my name on that trophy, too," Chacarra said.
A victory in the season standings would make him the third Spanish player to finish as Europe's No. 1 golfer, following Jon Rahm in 2019 and six-time winner Seve Ballesteros.
Chacarra also outlined his ambition to qualify automatically for Europe's 2027 Ryder Cup team rather than rely on a captain's selection.
He said he had discussed the goal with European captain Luke Donald.
"I told [European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald] that I want to be on the team, not as a pick but one of the [automatic] six spots.
That is one of the goals. That is still a year away but I know I am a good player.
I just want to keep getting better and keep winning," he said.
His season has also included five other top-five finishes, among them a tie for second at the Open de Espana in Madrid the previous week.
He acknowledged that the remaining Race to Dubai contests would bring a challenge from his closest rivals.
"It is not going to be easy. Rory always plays good in Dubai, so it will be a big battle.
Patrick, too - two of the best in the world are coming for me," Chacarra said.
McIlroy finished tied for 42nd in India at four under par after a two-over 74 in the final round.
The Northern Irishman began Sunday 13 shots behind Chacarra and struggled after opening with a birdie, recording a double bogey at the third and another bogey at the fourth.
McIlroy added a birdie at the eighth but dropped another shot before making two birdies and two bogeys on the back nine, then birdied the par-five 18th to complete his round.
He sits third in the Race to Dubai standings as he pursues a record-equalling eighth season title.
Reed finished tied for 23rd at eight under par after closing with a three-under 69.
The American, who had led the Race to Dubai standings for seven months, now sits second behind Chacarra.
England's Tommy Fleetwood finished at 13 under par after a four-under 68, securing a top-five result.
Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin both ended the tournament at 12 under par to finish inside the top 10.
According to the DP World Tour schedule, the next event is the Genesis Championship in South Korea.
The tour will then move to the United Arab Emirates for the Abu Dhabi Championship beginning November 5, followed by the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai a week later.
