The expansion Portland Fire look to extend their two-game winning streak as they return to the Moda Center on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to host the struggling Connecticut Sun in a WNBA matchup.

Portland enters the contest with a 4-3 record after securing an 81-74 road victory against the New York Liberty on Monday night.

The Fire outscored the Liberty 32-17 in the fourth quarter, utilizing a critical 12-0 run to secure the win.

The visiting Sun possess a 1-7 record and are concluding a five-game road trip.

Connecticut recently suffered a 97-70 defeat against the Golden State Valkyries on Monday, marking their third loss by at least 27 points this season.

Portland forced 19 turnovers against New York, with Emily Engstler contributing four steals and four blocked shots.

Carla Leite led the roster with 18 points, while Megan Gustafson added 11 points off the bench.

Fire coach Alex Sarama noted that the external perceptions of the expansion franchise have served as a primary motivator for his players.

"We have a chip on our shoulders about proving everyone wrong," said Alex Sarama, Portland Fire coach.

The victory in New York followed an 19-point win at Toronto, marking the first back-to-back victories for the franchise.

Portland previously defeated Connecticut 83-82 on May 18 behind 18-point performances from both Sarah Ashlee Barker and Bridget Carleton.
