Arena security cleared an Indiana Fever fan on Tuesday after a courtside confrontation with Las Vegas Aces forward A'ja Wilson during Game 2 of the WNBA playoff series at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The incident occurred with four minutes remaining in Indiana's 99-89 victory, when Wilson drew a blocking foul.
Wilson walked two rows into the spectator stands to confront a fan who had pointed and spoken toward her from the baseline seats.
Security officials escorted the fan from the seating area to investigate the interaction.
Broadcast commentators initially condemned the spectator's actions on air during the live stream before the venue completed its review.
Indiana Fever officials reviewed witness accounts and security records regarding the interaction before releasing the fan back to his seat.
No Violation Found
"Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses.
Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, the fan was not removed from the arena.
We consider the matter closed," according to the Fever statement.
A nearby spectator stated the individual yelled that the foul was on Wilson while pointing, without using profanity or derogatory language.
Security allowed the spectator to return to his seat shortly after the review.
Wilson addressed the incident during her postgame press conference, explaining that her reaction stemmed from the fan's physical movement toward the playing surface rather than the spoken words.
"If I see a man stepping towards me, I don't give a damn what you said … That's unacceptable," said Wilson.
Rule 12A, Section V of the WNBA rulebook states that any player who deliberately enters the spectator stands during a game faces automatic ejection, defining the first row of seats as the beginning of the stands.
