Vingegaard Dominates the Giro
Vingegaard showed dominant form during the three-week grand tour in Italy, putting his Team Visma-Lease a Bike in complete control of the race ahead of the final stage in Rome.
"I didn't dream of this before the Giro. Winning five stages is special for me," said Vingegaard.
The Danish rider expressed that the team encountered fewer difficulties than expected during the historically unpredictable race.
"Everything went better than we expected," said Vingegaard.
He noted that maintaining leadership in this specific grand tour is a rare achievement for any cycling team.
"The Giro is always the most unpredictable grand tour of the year.
And it felt like we had everything under control, that doesn't happen often in the Giro," said Vingegaard.
Vingegaard acknowledged that his upcoming challenge at the Tour de France against Tadej Pogacar will demand an even higher level of performance.
"I hope so. Time will tell.
To keep up with Pogacar, you have to be at your best. And I had to make a step," said Vingegaard.
Arensman Holds Fourth Place
Thymen Arensman protected his fourth place in the general classification despite aggressive attacks from rival riders and a mechanical issue on the final climb.
