Costco is adjusting its well-known food court combo without changing the price that has defined it for decades.

The retailer has started offering bottled water as an alternative to soda in its $1.50 hot dog combo, giving customers another option while keeping the cost unchanged.

The combo, which pairs a quarter-pound all-beef hot dog with a drink, has remained a staple at Costco locations for more than 40 years.

Water option rolls out across locations

The new choice allows customers to swap the traditional fountain soda for bottled water, a move that has already appeared in several stores.

At a high-traffic warehouse in Iwilei, Hawaii, staff confirmed the option had been available for about a month, with other locations in the region following.

Similar updates have also been reported in other parts of the United States, where customers noticed the option on ordering kiosks over time.

Customer habits drive the shift

Some shoppers had already been skipping the soda, either declining a cup or discarding it after purchase.

The bottled water option removes that extra step, offering a more practical choice for those who prefer not to drink soft drinks.

In many stores, bottled water has typically been sold through vending machines, often requiring separate payment.

Price remains unchanged

Despite inflation and rising food costs, the $1.50 price has held steady since the mid-1980s.

Costco leadership has maintained that the price will not increase, reinforcing the combo’s role as a consistent, low-cost offering for members.

Customers can still expect to pay $1.50 for the hot dog and drink combination, whether they choose soda or water.
