Local and State Response

In Denton County, two cases have been confirmed. Local health officials had already prepared medical networks for the expected summer increase.

Denton County Public Health stated that epidemiologists presented on cyclosporiasis at an April meeting in anticipation of the seasonal surge.

The Texas Department of State Health Services issued a statewide health advisory in May to raise clinical awareness.

Officials noted that most infections occur between May and August and urged medical professionals to watch for severe watery diarrhea and abdominal pain, especially in immunocompromised patients.
