Newcastle United has finalized the transfer of 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur from Ajax.
The deal, announced on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, includes a guaranteed fee of €24 million, with potential add-ons that could raise the total to €27 million.

Ajax will also retain a 12.5 percent sell-on clause for the young midfielder.
Steur completed his medical examination in England after an initial agreement with Ajax fell through due to disputes over playing time guarantees.
Ajax's Stance on Playing Time
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff explained that the club refused to meet demands for guaranteed minutes on the pitch for the teenager.
Steur had made 26 appearances for the Dutch side.

"Het gras bepaalt of iemand speelt," Cruijff said, emphasizing that performance on the field dictates playing time rather than external pressures.
He also noted that the squad remains incomplete ahead of their European qualifiers on July 23.
Newcastle is also closing in on a €60 million deal with SC Freiburg for Switzerland's World Cup standout Johan Manzambi.
The move aims to reinforce a midfield weakened by recent high-profile departures.
