Leicester City have completed the signing of Republic of Ireland midfielder Will Smallbone on a three-year contract.

The 26-year-old joins as a free agent after leaving Southampton during the summer transfer window.

The move reunites Smallbone with Leicester manager Russell Martin, who previously coached him at Southampton.

Smallbone's Career and International Record

Smallbone developed through Southampton's academy after joining in February 2017.

He made his senior debut three years later in a 2-0 FA Cup victory against Huddersfield Town, scoring the opening goal.

He recorded seven goals across 77 total appearances for Southampton, alongside loan spells at Stoke City and Millwall.

At international level, Smallbone has earned 15 caps for the Republic of Ireland since his debut in 2023 under former manager Stephen Kenny.

His most recent international appearance came nearly 12 months ago in a 1-0 home victory against Armenia in October.

Leicester City currently sit 14th in League One after seven games this season following their relegation.

Smallbone expressed enthusiasm about joining the club and reuniting with his former manager.

"I'm really looking forward to [getting started]. I'm hungry and looking forward to being at Leicester City," Smallbone said to LCFC.

He noted that his familiarity with the coaching staff and squad members will assist his transition to the team.

"I have spent a long time playing under the manager previously, I know a few of the boys here and I've played against a few of them in my time so I think that should help me to settle in quite quickly," Smallbone said to LCFC.
