The United States Coast Guard is conducting a search-and-rescue operation after a pleasure boat caught fire near San Francisco's Alcatraz Island on Tuesday.

One person remains missing, while 17 others have been rescued.

Federal authorities confirmed that rescue efforts were ongoing Tuesday afternoon following the blaze.

A video from local news outlet KTVU Fox 2 showed the red vessel partially submerged in the bay water, with multiple rescued individuals receiving medical evaluation on-site.

The incident occurred approximately 600 yards from the popular tourist destination.

Emergency response officials have not yet released details regarding the condition or injuries of the survivors brought ashore.

Investigation Underway

San Francisco Fire Department Lieutenant Mariano Elias described the vessel as a "pontoon pleasure boat." Local agencies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the maritime accident.
