Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea, making him the first addition under manager Michael Carrick.
The 22-year-old joins alongside Belgium captain Youri Tielemans, who arrived for £35 million, as United move to strengthen a midfield depleted by Casemiro's departure and Manuel Ugarte's injury.

Santos's £48 million transfer from a direct Premier League rival comes as a surprise, but his technical profile suggests he can offer balance alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
While Mainoo remains a key figure for Carrick, the teenager occasionally struggles with physical and defensive duties.
Santos brings a combative edge, winning 62% of his individual duels last season—a rate bettered by only three regular midfielders in the division.
Incisive Passing from Deep
Santos excels in distribution, completing 89.9% of his passes overall in his last league campaign.
He also completed 82.2% of his passes into the final third, ranking sixth among Premier League midfielders.

His average of 8.1 line-breaking passes per 90 minutes places him just behind established playmakers like Bruno Guimarães and Martin Ødegaard.
Replacing Casemiro's Press Resistance
Data indicates Santos could be more secure than Casemiro in deep, high-risk areas.
He recorded an 86.5% pass completion rate under pressure last season, compared to Casemiro's 80.4%.
Although Casemiro played a higher proportion of forward passes, Santos's press resistance provides Carrick with a reliable platform for buildup play.
