Australia's Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning that most capital cities face an over 80% chance of experiencing unusually warm and dry conditions this spring.
The forecast is driven by a strengthening El Niño phenomenon.

Climatologists are closely monitoring the situation, with predictions indicating the potential for one of the strongest El Niños on record.
Cities such as Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, and Perth could see maximum temperatures in the top 20% for this period.
El Niño Could Break Records
Dr. Zhi-Weng Chua, a senior climatologist at the bureau, noted that previous El Niños peaked at a monthly average of +2.6°C.
Current models predict this event could reach +3°C or higher.

"There is a realistic chance that the peak anomaly of this event will rank in the top events, with a chance it could rank as the highest," said Chua.
He emphasized the significant heat accumulation in the oceans over recent decades due to climate change.
Dr. Zeke Hausfather from Berkeley Earth mentioned that the current El Niño could exceed previous records.
"It looks like this year’s El Niño is not only very likely to be the strongest event since reliable records began – it may end up the strongest by a truly mind-blowing margin," he stated.
