"This does, in a lot of ways, feel like closing the loop on that chapter," said Nandy.

Nandy shared a personal anecdote from her childhood when she first saw the tapestry during a school trip to France.

"I remember feeling quite sick from drinking a lot of hot chocolate," she said.

Despite the childhood mishap, the experience left a lasting impression that she hopes to share with modern students.

"But it was amazing to see," said Nandy.

The government plans to invite schoolchildren from across the UK to view the artifact to boost historical awareness among youth.

"There are quite a few people in the UK for whom the Bayeux tapestry is one of the most famous artefacts in the world," said Nandy.

Nandy pointed out that many younger citizens remain unfamiliar with the historic artwork.

"But there are also quite a few people, particularly young people, who don’t know anything about it," she said.

The state aims to integrate cultural exchange programs more systematically into its broader foreign policy framework.

"One of the things that we’ve been doing with a lot of our partner organisations, including the British Museum, is being much more proactive about helping them to navigate some of the complexities involved," said Nandy.

Nandy cited relations with China as a complex example where cultural connections are vital despite political differences. "The people-to-people connections are vital," she said.

She acknowledged the persistent difficulties regarding governance and human rights in certain international partnerships.
