That margin represents the largest pole position advantage of the season.

McLaren's Lando Norris finished third fastest but will drop to 12th on the grid due to a 10-place penalty for using a fourth battery unit.

George Russell, Antonelli's teammate and championship rival who trails by 25 points, qualified fourth after finishing half a second behind the pace setter.

Lewis Hamilton qualified sixth behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in fifth, following a significant crash in the final practice session at Les Fagnes that required extensive repairs.

Red Bull's Isack Hadjar finished 10th but will start from the back of the grid after a 30-place penalty for taking new engine components.

During the final Q3 runs, Hadjar provided a slipstream tow for Verstappen to temporarily aid his teammate.
