He is expected to deliver an address at Downing Street and begin forming his cabinet.

Burnham Outlines Long-Term Vision

Before taking office, Burnham laid out a broader strategy for the country, stressing the need to address long-term structural challenges.

“I'm not saying that means I'm setting out to say I'm going to be here for ten years … it's more that we're not in the right place structurally, we're not in the right place as a country.

I think people can feel that,” Burnham said.

Burnham also addressed criticism over tax policies, rejecting the notion that he inherently favors tax increases.

He specifically highlighted public frustration with the frozen personal allowance threshold of £12,570.

“One thing I heard most on the doorsteps in Makerfield was frustration about the personal allowance, frozen at £12,570 … [That complaint] lodged in my mind,” Burnham noted.

“They're just characterising me as a tax raiser. Well, again, it's never that simplistic, is it?”

he added.
