V Engineering has introduced a new battery pack for the McLaren P1, offering a solution to the hypercar's aging hybrid battery issues.
The aftermarket upgrade, called Project Continuum, increases energy capacity to 12.4 kWh, a significant jump from the standard 4.72 kWh.

It also reduces weight by 23 kg (50.7 lbs), improving the car's overall performance and efficiency.
A Modern Replacement for an Aging Battery
McLaren built the P1 between 2013 and 2015, but the battery cells date back to 2010, making them nearly 16 years old.
V Engineering developed the new module with engineers from the original P1 program, using 21700 lithium cells built to FIA Formula E specifications.
The pack also features a fresh glycol-based cooling system, ensuring optimal thermal management.
While exact performance figures weren't shared, the increased capacity promises a longer zero-emission range compared to the original 10 km (6 miles).

Owners can also enjoy longer track sessions with the full 903 hp (916 PS / 674 kW) combined output from the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 and electric motor.
The battery is compatible with the P1's existing electrical architecture and offers plug-and-play installation.
Pricing hasn't been announced, but discussions are underway with owners in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and the US.
Customer installations are scheduled to begin in Spring 2027.

For those preferring a factory solution, McLaren offers its own Gen II battery replacement, announced in 2022, which cuts weight by 46 kg (101.4 lbs) but costs $156,700 and has long waiting times.
