The Oakland Athletics defeated the Los Angeles Angels 6-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium, extending their lead in the American League West to two games over the Texas Rangers.

Tyler Soderstrom delivered a tiebreaking RBI single in the 10th inning to secure the victory for the visiting Athletics.

Scott Barlow earned the win with a scoreless ninth inning, while Hogan Harris recorded the save by inducing a bases-loaded groundout from Jorge Soler in the 10th.

Chase Silseth took the loss for the Angels after allowing an unearned run in the extra frame.

The game featured a flurry of early scoring, with the teams combining for eight runs in the first two innings.

Soderstrom hit a two-run single in the first, but Soler answered with a two-run homer.

Los Angeles built a 5-3 lead in the second inning on solo home runs from Jo Adell and Josh Lowe off Athletics starter Aaron Civale.

Civale and the Oakland bullpen then combined for eight consecutive scoreless innings, including perfect relief outings from Luis Medina and Mark Leiter Jr.

Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz recovered from early control issues to retire 12 straight batters from the third through the sixth inning.

Oakland cut the deficit to 5-4 in the seventh when Nick Kurtz hit an RBI single after two hit batters by reliever Ryan Zeferjahn.

Jeff McNeil tied the game 5-5 in the top of the ninth with a leadoff home run inside the right-field foul pole off Angels closer Kirby Yates.

The Athletics will conclude their series in Anaheim on Thursday before traveling to face the San Diego Padres on Friday.
