Lewis Hamilton paid tribute to Ferrari icon Gilles Villeneuve ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, while also making a playful remark about his son, Jacques Villeneuve.

Speaking at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on Friday, the seven-time world champion reflected on the late driver's legacy and unique driving style.

Hamilton on Gilles Villeneuve's Legacy

Hamilton admitted he didn't know much about Gilles Villeneuve initially, having grown up watching Niki Lauda.

However, recent reading and videos revealed the Ferrari driver's immense talent on the track.

"He seemed to be, from some of the videos, a driver that really was at the edge of his seat, really being able to balance the car as it's moving, which was pretty cool to see," Hamilton said.

The British driver then contrasted Gilles with his son Jacques, a former world champion and current Sky F1 pundit, adding with a laugh: "And obviously far better than his son."

Stroll on Bravery of Past Era

Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll, also asked about Villeneuve's impact, noted he wasn't alive during the Canadian's racing days.

But Stroll highlighted the immense bravery required by drivers of that era, who faced severe risks.

"Back then when you were on the limits of the car, there was always a chance of not coming out of the car," Stroll said.

He praised Villeneuve's unconventional journey from snowmobile racing to Formula 1, calling him "one of the most talented drivers that ever lived."

Stroll emphasized the staggering danger drivers accepted, estimating a 20 to 30 percent chance of death each time they got in the car.
