The Arizona Diamondbacks secured a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Chase Field on Saturday, May 23, 2026, taking their second win in the first three games of the four-game weekend series.

Arizona jumped ahead early with a three-run third inning, highlighted by a Geraldo Perdomo RBI single and a Nolan Arenado RBI double.

Ketel Marte added a two-run blast in the fourth inning.

Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits over five innings.

Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen earned the win, giving up three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Colorado attempted a comeback with two runs in the fourth and another in the sixth. T.

J. Rumfield hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to one.

Diamondbacks reliever Kevin Ginkel escaped a two-on, no-out jam in the eighth, and closer Paul Sewald pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his 11th save of the season.

The loss dropped the Rockies to 20-32, while the Diamondbacks improved to 27-24.

Lorenzen, Schaeffer Reflect on Pitching Performance

Lorenzen expressed dissatisfaction with his outing, noting a misplaced fastball to Marte. "It was just a fastball," he said.

"He's usually pretty patient. 0-0, trying to go away and missed in the middle."

Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer offered a more defense-oriented assessment. "I thought Mike threw the ball fine.

I thought he gave us a chance to win," Schaeffer said. "Good breaking stuff.

I think on the homer to Marte — which was the game-winner, basically — he was trying to go away, missed his spot, and Marte is a really good hitter."

Schaeffer also praised Rumfield's home run, which ended a seven-game homerless drought for the Rockies. "TJ threw up four solid at-bats tonight," he said.

"With a night where the ball definitely wasn't flying, to get it the other way — that's just some real strength."

Diamondbacks Roster Moves and Troy's Debut

Before the game, the Diamondbacks placed left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on the 10-day injured list with a minor left hamstring strain and selected the contract of outfield prospect Tommy Troy from Triple-A Reno.

Manager Torey Lovullo explained the decision. "We wanted to make sure we give him enough time," he said.

"Given what he's walked through and put his body through to get back to this point, why fast-forward that?

Let's give him 10 days and then read and react once we get to that 11th day."

Troy, the 12th overall pick in the 2023 draft out of Stanford, learned about his promotion late Friday night.

He was initially called to a meeting under the pretense of reviewing defensive footage. "I'm like, 'I don't know what that's about,'" Troy said.

"It was an incredible moment. I had to soak it in.

It felt really good. Excited to be here."

Diamondbacks rookie outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt praised Marte's hitting streak. "Crazy what he's doing right now," Waldschmidt said.

He emphasized his role in getting on base to maximize Marte's impact.

"That's especially important for me to get on base for the hot streak that he's going on," Waldschmidt said.

The four-game series concludes Sunday afternoon when Colorado left-hander José Quintana faces Arizona right-hander Ryne Nelson at Chase Field.
