The Bank of Scotland introduced a limited edition £20 banknote on Monday, May 25, 2026, honoring midfielder Scott McTominay and the national team's World Cup qualification.

The design merges traditional Scottish banknote aesthetics with a modern tribute to the successful qualifying campaign, as reported by the BBC.

The imagery references McTominay's opening goal from a 4-2 victory over Denmark at Hampden Park last November, which secured Scotland's first World Cup appearance in 28 years.

Only 100 copies have been printed, with 50 notes available to the public through an online collector auction ending at 11 a.

m. on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Fans can also acquire them via a prize draw or by cracking codes at interactive pop-up vaults in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

"Reaching the biggest stage of world football is something every player dreams of, and I know it means everything to our fans," stated McTominay.

The former Manchester United player noted that the historic moment belongs to all supporters of the national team.

"Moments like that belong to everyone who follows the team, so seeing my goal featured on a Scottish banknote feels incredibly special," he said.

McTominay also expressed pride in the charitable partnership tied to the commemorative release.

"Being able to work with Bank of Scotland to turn it into something that also supports Crisis, and the work they do to tackle homelessness, makes me even more proud," he stated.

All proceeds from public auctions and prize draws will be donated to Crisis Scotland to assist individuals experiencing homelessness.

"Securing qualification in such dramatic fashion is a moment fans will never forget, and we wanted to mark it in a way that's rooted in Scottish identity," noted Emma Noble, chair of the Scottish executive committee at the Bank of Scotland.

Noble highlighted that both football and banking currency are deeply embedded traditions in the country's history.

"Like football, banknotes have long been part of our country's story, and this limited edition £20 note combines those two traditions with a modern, creative twist," she said.

She added that McTominay's spectacular overhead kick has secured a permanent place in the nation's sporting folklore.

"Scott's overhead kick is already regarded as one of the nation's greatest ever goals," Noble noted.

The institution expressed gratitude for the athlete's collaboration on the philanthropic project.

"It's been a privilege to work with him to bring it to life in such a unique way, and we're grateful for his support in helping raise funds for Crisis as they work to end homelessness across Scotland," Noble stated.

The national team is preparing for World Cup group stage matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Manager Steve Clarke's squad will face Haiti on June 14 and Morocco on June 19 in Boston, followed by a final group match against Brazil on June 24 in Miami.
