The Seattle Mariners defeated the Athletics 9-2 in West Sacramento, California, on Monday night, narrowing the gap in the American League West standings to 1.5 games.

A six-run third inning fueled the victory, featuring two-run home runs from Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone.

Randy Arozarena added an RBI double in the third and a 437-foot two-run homer in the ninth inning.

Shortstop J. P.

Crawford led off the fourth inning with his seventh home run of the season against Athletics starter Aaron Civale.

Seattle executed a planned pitching strategy, using starter Luis Castillo and reliever Bryce Miller.

Castillo struck out six and allowed only two hits over four scoreless innings, leaving with a 7-0 lead.

Miller earned the win, pitching five innings and giving up a solo home run to Shea Langeliers in the eighth inning.

Civale took the loss, falling to 5-2 after allowing seven runs and nine hits in four innings.

Josh Naylor drove in a run on a forceout and scored on Arozarena's double for the Athletics.

Athletics slugger Nick Kurtz drew a walk in the third inning, extending his on-base streak to 48 games.

That streak ties the single-season franchise record set by Mark McGwire in 1995 and matches Albert Pujols for the fifth-longest by a player aged 23 or younger.

Athletics reliever Jack Perkins pitched 4.2 innings, allowing two runs and three hits while striking out seven.

The three-game series continues Tuesday with Mariners right-hander Emerson Hancock facing Athletics right-hander Luis Severino.
