Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon on Monday, July 6, 2026, after defeating Alexandra Eala of the Philippines in a three-set match.

The 13th-seeded Paolini secured her victory with a final score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, marking her return to the final eight of the tournament.

Paolini experienced a performance fluctuation during the match, starting strong before facing a setback in the second set and recovering her service game in the final set.

Former Wimbledon champion Roger Federer watched the match from the stands, which prompted a reaction from the Italian player during her on-court interview.

"Voglio ringraziarti Roger perché sei il mio idolo.

Paolini later reflected on her performance and the challenges she faced during the current tennis season, noting the limited number of matches she played in recent months.

The Italian player also commented on her adaptation to the grass surface throughout the tournament milestones.

"Sono arrivata qui senza molte partite. Ho giocato davvero poche partite negli ultimi mesi.

In the upcoming quarterfinal round, Paolini is scheduled to face Marta Kostyuk, while Elise Mertens also advanced to the quarterfinals in a separate bracket.
