The Television Academy will announce the nominations for the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards live on Wednesday at 8:30 a.
m. PT from the Wolf Theatre.
The live stream will be available across multiple platforms including the academy's official website, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
Emmy Award winners Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller will present the nominations alongside Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego.
The announcement follows Tuesday's confirmation that actress Mariska Hargitay will host the main awards ceremony in September.
This marks the first time a solo female has hosted since 2011.
Expected Frontrunners and Category Changes
According to predictions from Rotten Tomatoes and the L. A.
Times, drama series "The Pitt" and "Pluribus" are expected to lead the overall nominations.
In the comedy categories, "Hacks" enters its final season as the clear frontrunner, while "Shrinking" and "Abbott Elementary" remain strong competitors.
Several major structural changes will debut during this competition cycle.
The consolidation of scripted variety and talk series into a single outstanding variety series category is one key change.
The outstanding television movie category has also been renamed to outstanding movie to better reflect modern streaming and broadcast landscapes.
The academy has introduced the Legacy Award to honor television programs that have made a profound and lasting impact on audiences.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will air live on NBC and stream on Peacock from the Peacock Theater on September 14.
The Creative Arts Emmy Awards will take place on September 5 and 6.
