Invesco QQQ, the massive ETF tracking the Nasdaq-100 Index with over $453.58 billion in assets under management, faces intense fee competition as BlackRock and State Street launch rival funds featuring a lower 0.10% expense ratio ahead of Invesco's second-quarter earnings report on July 28, 2026.

State Street introduced its competing Nasdaq-100 tracker two weeks prior to BlackRock launching the iShares Nasdaq 100 ETF (IQQ) on July 9, 2026.

Both funds heavily undercut the 0.18% annual operating expense charged by Invesco's flagship product, triggering structural portfolio shifts among major institutional investors.

Despite the aggressive fee reduction by rivals, flow data indicates that investors continue to prioritize deep liquidity and trading volume over marginal cost differences.

On July 24, BlackRock's IQQ saw approximately $22 million in trading activity, while Invesco QQQ traded nearly $29.4 billion, demonstrating a massive liquidity advantage.

Invesco's lower-cost alternative, QQQM, which charges a lower expense ratio than the traditional QQQ fund, collected $79 million on July 24 and has recorded several sessions exceeding $200 million in net inflows over the past month.

Meanwhile, State Street's QNDX saw inflows flatten to zero following a short-lived $49 million surge on July 23.

Institutional Moves and Performance

Institutional filings highlight diverging approaches toward QQQ holdings during the first quarter.

Valence8 US LP trimmed its stake by 15.0%, selling 10,340 shares to leave a remaining position of 58,448 shares valued at $33.735 million.

Conversely, Waverly Advisors LLC expanded its exposure by 2.7%, adding 2,907 shares to bring its total investment to 111,706 shares valued at $64.474 million.

Invesco QQQ traded at $684.23 on July 24, down 1.1% for the session after hitting a low of $682.48 on volume of 41,875,377 shares.

The fund has gained approximately 11.63% year-to-date and 21.64% over the past 52 weeks, supported by a 57.8% allocation to the Information Technology sector, led by top holdings Nvidia, Apple, and Microsoft.

The underlying portfolio also held 39.7 million shares in SpaceX worth $4.57 billion as of July 22, representing a 0.98% weight.

Upcoming lockup expirations around August 4 and August 20 could mechanically increase SpaceX's index weight regardless of price changes.

Additionally, Invesco QQQ recently raised its quarterly dividend to $0.8135 per share from $0.73, paid on July 10 to stockholders of record as of June 22, bringing the annualized payout to $3.25 per share with a yield of 0.5%.
