Streaming platform KIJK announced it will broadcast the pre-season friendly match between FC Volendam and Ajax on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
This marks KIJK's first pay-per-view football stream.
The match will take place at the KRAS Stadion in Volendam at 2:30 p. m.
Viewers can purchase individual access for €3.99 via the provider's website without requiring a subscription.
Sports commentator Joep Schrijvers will provide live commentary. The stream is accessible to supporters both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Sports marketer Chris Woerts unveiled the broadcast details on Tuesday evening during the television show De Oranjezomer on SBS6.
"People can buy a code and watch FC Volendam-Ajax live, pay per view, at KIJK on Sunday for 3.99 euros.
Whether you are at a campsite with your family or in Bakkum, it does not matter. Enjoy watching with a beer," said Woerts.
Talk show guest Sander de Kramer questioned the pricing, suggesting stadium tickets might be cheaper. Woerts responded: "No, are you crazy?
It is very expensive to enter that stadium. You are better off watching on KIJK with a beer and a snack.
The result? A mediocre 3-1 victory for Volendam."
The paid broadcast decision drew immediate criticism from Ajax supporters on social media and fan forums.
Fans pointed to existing subscription costs for services like ESPN and Ziggo Sport as the primary reason for their dissatisfaction.
"3.99 for a friendly match? I think this will yield few viewers," said Ronald, an Ajax supporter.
Other supporters expressed frustration over the increasing fragmentation of sports broadcasting rights.
"Then I just will not WATCH. I already have so many streaming services that I am starting to get a bit allergic to it.
Ziggo for European football and of course ESPN for the league. I will skip KIJK.
It is just a friendly match.
I am willing to pay a bit more for football, but then pay my club double the amount in TV rights," said an anonymous fan.
The fixture serves as the final summer friendly for Ajax.
The Amsterdam club previously played matches against Panathinaikos, AEK Larnaca, VfL Bochum, Olympiakos, and Burnley, which were broadcast without additional fees on official club channels and Ziggo Sport.
Before traveling to Volendam, Ajax faces FK Vojvodina in the second qualifying round return leg of the Conference League on Thursday evening, following a 4-1 victory in the first leg in Serbia.
Ajax manager Míchel Sánchez reflected on his initial weeks with the squad ahead of the competitive matches.
"A player who presses gives energy to the team," said Sánchez.
Should Ajax advance past FK Vojvodina as expected, the club is scheduled to face Irish side Shelbourne FC in the third qualifying round.
